Session Rates

I believe therapy should be accessible. Cost should not be the reason someone does not get help. Here is how my pricing works.

$0
Initial Consultation

Free 30-minute consultation to see if we are a good fit. No commitment required.

Sliding Scale
Available

Reduced rates available based on financial need. Ask when you reach out — I mean it.

About Sliding Scale

I genuinely want to help the people who need it — not just the people who can easily afford it. If the standard rate is a barrier for you, please say so when you reach out. We will have a real conversation about what is workable.

I would rather work with someone at a reduced rate than have them not get support at all. Financial strain is often part of what brings people to therapy in the first place. I am not going to make it harder to access.

Do You Accept Insurance?

I am currently a private pay (out-of-pocket) practice and do not bill insurance directly. Here is why that is actually worth knowing:

If the cost of private pay is genuinely prohibitive, let me know. I would rather find a way to make it work than have you go without support.

Frequently Asked Questions

The consultation is 30 minutes by phone or video. We talk about what you are looking for, I share a bit about how I work, and we figure out together whether it is a good fit. There is no pressure to commit. If I am not the right person for what you need, I will tell you and try to point you somewhere useful.
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come in with a specific, defined issue and make real progress in 8–12 sessions. Others are working through something more layered — like a faith transition, a major life change, or longstanding anxiety — and benefit from longer-term work. I am not interested in keeping people in therapy longer than they need to be. I would rather help you build the skills to handle things on your own and move on.
Yes. I see clients in-person in Murray, Utah and via telehealth for anyone in the state of Utah. Telehealth sessions work the same as in-person — same length, same focus, same approach. A lot of people find telehealth more convenient, especially for busy schedules or if you live outside the Salt Lake Valley.
I am a graduate student intern completing practicum requirements at A Pretty Good Therapist, the practice of Patrick Powers, PhD, LMFT. I am not independently licensed. All clinical work is conducted under Patrick's direct supervision. My practicum hours count toward my graduate degree at North Central University, not DOPL licensure. Clients benefit from lower rates and a clinician with an experienced licensed supervisor actively involved in their care.
I ask for 24 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged a fee. Life happens — I understand that. If something comes up, reach out as soon as you can and we will work through it.
My primary focus is adults (18+) and couples. I am not currently the right fit for young children. If you have a teenager navigating a faith transition, anxiety, or a major life change, feel free to reach out and we can talk about whether it makes sense.
That is exactly when the free consultation is most useful. You do not have to have it figured out. You do not have to know what you would even talk about. Just show up and we will figure out together whether this is the right move for you right now. The consultation is free and there is no pressure.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of expected charges before your first session if you are uninsured or choosing not to use insurance (self-pay).

What this means in practice:

For questions about your Good Faith Estimate, contact colby@colbychristensentherapy.com or call (385) 410-4489. For more information about your rights, visit cms.gov/nosurprises.
